About Golson Nature Area
Just a short walk from the SBLC’s headquarters, Golson will remain in City ownership, but as an O.U.R. property, it allows partners, including General Motors, to ‘reset’ the park’s natural features. As part of the O.U.R. Bay City project, the SBLC improved the existing boardwalks and platforms, and installed new interpretive signs that inform site visitors of Golson’s variety of natural features.
Because Golson is located next to a popular boat launch, the site has high exposure and value to the City. As par of the O.U.R. network, the SBLC has developed programs around the site, made better use of the cleared shoreline, and has used and continues to use the pavilion for nature-based activities. Part of the renovation included Golson as part of the Saginaw Bay Birding Trail. Improvements at this site received additional support from the General Motors Corporation and maintenance funding from the City of Bay City for invasive phragmites treatments and removal.
