The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy is accepting applications for our board of directors. We will accept applications until Friday, August 21, at 5:00 p.m.
If you answered yes to any, or all, of these questions, we hope you consider applying to become a member of our board of directors!
Traditionally, the SBLC opens a recruitment window in late summer, then reviews applications and conducts interviews (yes, there is an interview) in the early fall. The board includes 13 members at present, but at the discretion of the members, can grow to as many as 21 members. This year we are considering adding two to three new members if qualified applicants come forward. Usually, only about 15% of applicants are offered a position, as demand to serve with the SBLC is high.
Like many organizations, 2020 is shaping up to be one of the most challenging in our history. The compounded threats of the pandemic and its economic fallout threaten many of our commercial partners, and agency grant resources are scarce at the national and state levels. Our individual donor base, however, is growing. We believe that our friends and supporters value our work, especially when our community’s well being is so severely under stress. Serving on our board, you will be asked to contribute meaningful and dedicated effort to help us develop new projects, find new partners, sustain our base of programs and projects, and show leadership in conservation.
The time commitment for this position includes six two-hour meetings per year of the full board and staff, up to six one-hour committee meetings, and a few volunteer events and fundraisers in the community. You will always be welcome to attend more than that and to participate in as many volunteer opportunities as you wish. Board members are required by our bylaws to be donors to the corporation, though no minimum dollar amount is required. Give as little or as much as you wish, so long as you are a donor.
Our staff is full-time, professional, and highly engaged. You will receive communications from the executive director regularly, and from specific staff members, depending on what committee you serve. You are also expected to follow and support the SBLC on social media, helping us spread the word about our work.
If you have ever considered applying to serve on a board, now is the time. We are looking to add candidates that can bring a passion for nature to the table, who enjoy and understand the precious world in which we live. We would love to meet you and help you make a difference in our community!
If you are interested in being considered, please fill out the application. A resume is welcome, but not required. If you have any additional materials or references that you believe would help our existing members get to know you as a candidate, please include them!
Online applications must be complete by August 21, 2020.
