Thank you everyone, for your support! Trevor, our Conservation Lead, is making progress with investigating what happened, and has been in touch with local police. Luckily, the damages are repairable and with your help we can fix them straight away!
- Smashed gates
- Damaged trails
- Stolen signage
- Widespread ecological disturbance
All donations will go to a restricted fund established exclusively for Sand Point, which will be used to repair the damage caused by the vandals and to upgrade the entrance security measures.
The Sand Point Nature Preserve is 100% open to the public and gets heavy use in the community as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It is home to nesting Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, and many other species. It was recently identified as the most biodiverse location on the entire Saginaw Bay shoreline for herpetofauna (turtles, snakes, lizards, etc.) and is utilized by many local people who visit the Preserve nearly every day.
Sand Point is even open to hunting and fishing, and is enjoyed by cross-country skiers and mountain bikers, too. It is a cherished community resource and we will do our best to fix the damage caused straight away!
